French Croissants Recipe
Making traditional French croissants at home may seem intimidating, but it's definitely worth the effort. Here's a step-by-step recipe to guide you through the process.
Ingredients
- 500g flour 🌾
- 10g salt 🧂
- 80g sugar 🍬
- 25g yeast 🍞
- 300g unsalted butter 🧈
- 300ml milk 🥛
- 1 egg yolk 🥚
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm milk in a mixing bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the bowl and mix until the dough comes together.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out the cold dough into a rectangle and place the cold butter in the center.
- Wrap the dough around the butter, seal it well, and roll out the dough again into a long rectangle.
- Fold the dough into thirds and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Repeat steps 5-6 two more times, chilling the dough for 30 minutes in between each fold.
- Roll out the dough into a large rectangle and cut it into triangles.
- Roll each triangle from the base to the tip, creating a classic croissant shape.
- Place the croissants on a baking sheet, brush them with egg yolk, and let them rise for 30-60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 190°C and bake the croissants for 15-20 minutes or until they're golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let the croissants cool on a wire rack before serving.
Enjoy your freshly baked French croissants with a cup of coffee or tea.
